Plans and sizes

What can I upload?

A PDF, a photo or a scan of a floor plan, including a sketch if the walls are clear. A phone photo taken at an angle works, but a flat, well lit one reads better.

How sharp does the image need to be?

At least 1500 px wide. Smaller images can still be imported, but small printed numbers become hard to read, and Selfstage will flag more of them for you to check.

How accurate are the sizes?

Sizes printed on your plan are copied from it. Sizes the plan does not print are estimated from its scale, and can be off by several inches. The home marks which is which: a solid line is printed, a dashed line is estimated.

We have not measured an accuracy percentage, so we do not quote one. For a fit under 2″ of clearance, check it with a tape measure in the room.

What units does it use?

Feet and inches. Measurements use real prime marks, such as 12′ 4″.

Does it work with plans from any builder?

Yes. Selfstage reads a plan by what is drawn on it, not by who drew it. Nothing in the product is written for one builder, region or community, and plan options are generic layers such as a loft or a finished basement.

What if it reads a room wrong?

Every import comes with a list of what Selfstage was unsure about. Type the right size or move the wall, and the home rebuilds. You can also trace a level by hand if an image will not read.

Does this replace a survey or an architect?

No. A plan is a drawing, and the finished building can differ from it. Selfstage is for checking whether furniture fits before you buy it or move it. It is not for permits, structure or code.

Your homes

Who owns my plans and homes?

You do. A home you build is yours, and a plan you upload stays your file. We use it to read the plan and show you the home. A home is only visible to others if you share its link. We state no retention period until it is set.

Can several people work on one home?

On Team plans, through an organization. Anyone you send a share link to can walk through the home and measure it, but nothing they do changes it.

Credits

What happens when I run out of credits?

Everything marked Free on the pricing page keeps working: you can open your homes, place and move furniture and measure. Share links come with your plan, not your credits, so they keep working on a paid plan. The steps that cost credits, such as importing a new plan, wait until you have credits again.

Do credits expire or roll over?

Credit rollover, expiry and refund terms are set on the pricing page when they are final. Until then we state none.

Can I get a refund?

Credit rollover, expiry and refund terms are set on the pricing page when they are final. Until then we state none.
